I am a biology major turned developer.
Though I am a Java developer, I am intrigued by many languages, frameworks, and markups. I enjoy learning, developing new technology, and eradicating technical debt by modernizing legacy applications.
Professionally, I strive to be on a high-performing agile team working for an organization that is at or near the bleeding edge of technology. I enjoy working on highly available web applications and web services, and I am always eager to venture outside of my comfort zone. Subsequently, I continue to dig deeper into various JavaScript frameworks like Angular, React, and Node.js, while exploring the monolithic framework that is Spring.
Outside of Java and JavaScript, my goal is to enhance my working knowledge of relational databases, and explore opportunities to learn and use non-relational databases. I would also like to work with cloud-based IaaS and PaaS technologies.
Personally, my goals are to climb all of the fourteeners in Colorado, and continue my journey as a vintner.
When I started my collegiate career as a biology major, I was introduced to MatLab at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. MatLab sparked my interest in the puzzles and logical basics of programming, so I enrolled in some computer classes. A few years later, I graduated with a major in Biology and a minor in Computer Science. I now work professionally as a full-stack software developer, and I use the systematic techniques learned in my science background when writing programs and troubleshooting issues.
I have experience developing highly-available SLA-dictated services, and GUI-based web applications. I currently work with XML-based and JSON-based services in both a push and pull architecture, Java 7 (and some Java 8), JavaScript, jQuery, CSS/CSS3, HTML/HTML5, Shell/Bash, Groovy, and a bit of Python. I also work with WebLogic and Tomcat on AIX, and use Oracle databases as the datasource.
I play a lot outside of work with a variety of frameworks and languages, which is evident in my website, blog, and HackerRank activities. I am planning to begin working with open source projects, which is something I am very excited about.
Outside of technology I love hiking, rock climbing, and making wine.
